FIRST Lady Grace Mugabe hit out at opposition MDC-T leader and former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai Thursday while addressing a rally in Matebeleland South.

Tsvangirai was premier in the fractious coalition government which led the country after the violent and disputed 2008 elections.

His MDC-T party has dominated the Matebeleland and Midlands regions in elections.

But Grace told villagers at Maphisa Growth Point in Matobo district that they were wasting their time with Tsvangirai.

The MDC-T leader was linked with a number of women and reportedly paid out six figure sums to end some of the relationships.

He eventually settled down with current spouse Elizabeth, the daughter of a senior Zanu PF politician.

“Some people engage in politics because of their greediness and just for the fun of it. Don’t allow Tsvangirai and his people to waste your time,” she said.

“When he was appointed Prime Minister he forgot about serving the nation and started proposing love to every woman he set his eyes on.”

Grace claimed the former premier was in politics not for public service but personal gain.

“Such people don’t care about the interests of the nation. They care about their own interests,” she said.

“They’ll start coming here just before elections soliciting for your votes and spending the money that they get from their partners in some developed countries.”

Grace has been staging rallies around the country in a developed that has sparked controversy within and outside the ruling Zanu PF party.

Some in Zanu PF are suspicious of the First Lady’s activities as the party rows over the succession of her 91-year-old husband.

Opposition parties have also reacted angrily to images of the First Lady donating at Zanu PF rallies tractors and other agricultural equipment acquired through government loans.
