WINDHOEK: Namibia said on Wednesday that it is concerned that the present situation in Zimbabwe creates uncertainty that is not conducive to peace, stability and consolidation of democracy in Zimbabwe and the region as a whole.

The Namibian government has been following the unfolding developments in Zimbabwe with concern, and associates itself with the statement issued on behalf of Southern African Development Community (SADC), Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said in a statement.

"As neighbours, member states of SADC and the African Union, Namibia and Zimbabwe share a common destiny and common aspirations for peace, economic prosperity and democracy for our countries and people," she said.

Nandi-Ndaitwah noted that the situation in Zimbabwe remains relatively calm and it is the expectation of Namibia that democratic institutions in Zimbabwe will continue to carry out their constitutional functions.

She urged all parties concerned to scrupulously adhere to the relevant provisions of the SADC Treaty on Governance and the African Union Constitutive Act.
