YORK City Knights have recruited England Academy international winger Judah Mazive from Wakefield Trinity for 2018 - with boss James Ford tipping the teenager to "go far" in the game.

The 19-year-old, born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, is a product of Trinity's respected youth system.

He played twice in Super League in 2016 after returning from the successful England Academy tour to Australia, making his debut in Wakey's Super 8s loss to Wigan and scoring a try the following week in defeat to Warrington.

He was given a full-time contract at Belle Vue 12 months ago but could not break into their first team this year, playing twice on loan at Oxford in Kingstone Press League One.

On his new deal at Bootham Crescent, Mazive said: “I’m really grateful for this opportunity and excited to take on a new challenge at York City Knights.

"The boss really sold the club, its ambitions and its facilities to me, and now I’m just really looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and coaching staff and getting stuck in.”

Mazive has been likened to the departed Dee Foggin-Johnston in playing style, but bigger, tipping the scales at 89kg, and the club hope they have recruited a relative bargain in comparison.

Knights head coach James Ford said: “I’m excited to bring Judah to the club.

"He comes from an excellent full-time environment at Wakefield and brings with him bags of potential.

“He’s a good athlete, he's quick, evasive and powerful. He will be able to effectively bring us out of our own half on the front foot, and he possesses finishing skills that will soon make him a firm fan favourite I’m sure.

“Like with the rest of the squad, I hope Judah comes with an attitude to work hard at developing his game.

"Playing for York is a big step from the Super League academy level, and he’ll need to come at this challenge head on.

“If he does, he will go far.”
