US: On Tuesday, television star and Tony-nominated playwright Danai Gurira was in Orlando to campaign for Democratic Presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton.

Gurira, who is best known for playing “Michonne” on The Walking Dead, highlighted Clinton’s vision for an America that is stronger together, as well as her plan to build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top.

After describing her family’s journey to the United States from Zimbabwe, which included, her father overcoming a language barrier to become a chemist, she emphasized the importance of immigrants coming to America as the reason why the country was stronger together.

“This is about empowerment and working hard.” she began “People come here and build business and they celebrate their culture and allow people to do the same.

"That’s what makes American great that. People coming together and having that fusion”

During her address Gurira also recalled meeting the former Secretary of State and focusing on her qualifications that have many Clinton supporters believing she’s one of the most qualified candidates to seek the Oval Office.

“I’m known for playing a character on television, who’s tough, strong, formidable and all of those things.” said Gurira, whose Michonne character effortless disposes of zombies with a samurai sword on the popular show.

Gurira’s visit is the latest by a Clinton surrogate to the “Heart of the I4” corridor with less than a month to go until voters in one of the country’s biggest political battlegrounds head to the polls to determine who will be the next Commander in Chief.

Clinton currently leads her Republican rival, Donald Trump, in the polls. The lead comes after Trump’s controversial remarks on women, that have lead many Republicans to withdraw their support.

“It’s important for our girls to see this.” added Gurira “Not just because she’s a women. It’s because she’s a woman and she’s the most qualified.”
