The Zifa Electoral Committee has finally cleared Trevor Carelese-Juul to contest in the December 5 elections for the new Zifa president.

During the initial vetting process, Juul’s papers were turned down and was asked to prove that he has been resident in Zimbabwe.

The businessman spends most of his time in South Africa.

But after resubmitting his papers last Thursday, he was finally cleared to run for the Zifa big job.

He is expected to be the main challenger to Phillip Chiyangwa.

The Electoral Committee released a statement confirming that 17 candidates will contest, with the majority of them running to sit in the executive committee.

“After carefully perusing the papers filed by the aspiring candidates who number 17.

"The Committee meticulously went through the papers and is comfortably satisfied that the named candidates qualify to run for the positions they have selected. All the positions are therefore contested and hence there shall be elections for all the vacant positions,” read the statement.

Former Warriors winger Edzai Kasinauyo will be vying for a place as an executive committee board member.
