Mapeza calms expectations as FC Platinum beat City

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza believes it is still game on as the platinum miners narrowed the gap between them and PSL leaders Chicken Inn to just two points after seeing Harare City 2-0 at Mandava Stadium on Saturday.

Substitute Nigel Papias and Marshal Mudehwe were on target as FC Platinum took advantage of Chicken Inn’s draw with WhaWha at Ascot Stadium on the same day.

With three games to go in the campaign, FC Platinum can now heavily fancy their chances of winning a maiden league title after closing in on the leaders.

But Mapeza has refused to get carried away, saying it is too early to start proclaiming themselves as title favourites.

“This was a massive result for us and I am very happy for the boys. We still have three games to play for and that is nine points on the table,” Mapeza said.

“We will just have to wait and see what happens in the remaining games. My players were under pressure after hearing the Chicken Inn result but I told them to calm down. It paid off and we managed to collect three points.”

Mapeza and his men visit relegation-haunted Flame Lily in their next match.
