Harare derby stalemate as Caps, Dynamos share spoils

It was a tale of veteran forwards at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday, as Takesure Chinyama scored to help Dynamos maintain their control over Caps United, who had Leonard Tsipa on target for them to scrap a 1-1 draw in an entertaining Harare derby.

Chinyama rose from the bench to thrust Dynamos on 74 minutes but Tsipa struck back six minutes later, although Caps once again failed to beat Dynamos in a league match inside six years.

The result saw both the Harare giants extending their league winless streak to three matches.

Dynamos did not do much to boost their title chances as they remained six points behind leaders Chicken Inn on a weekend in which only FC Platinum won of all the sides in the top-three on the log.

For Caps United, they also complicated their chances of finishing in the top-four after Triangle won their game against Dongo Sawmills.

Caps started the afternoon appearing to finally break the jinx with rampant attacking in the first 20 minutes, in which they forced Dynamos goalkeeper Tatenda Mukuruva to spill a Hardlife Zvirekwi shot as early as the first minute.

Stephen Makatuka also added Caps United’s probing with his headed effort closely missing target off a corner kick.

Tsipa missed Caps’ best chance of the match by sliding just wide in front of a yawning goal after coming at the end of a Phenias Bhamusi low cross.

But Dynamos settled and started hitting back with Ronald Chitiyo, Ocean Mushure coming close to score.

Bhamusi also had try at goal with his pile drive going just wide. Mukuruva again spilled a Zvirekwi shot but saved from Tsipa who had struck the rebound just before the break.

Few chances however came soon after the restart but substitute Chinyama then turned in a low cross by Chitiyo who had outpaced Makatuka along the right wing.

But Tsipa restored parity by heading in a Dominic Chungwa free kick. Dynamos almost sealed the match on the stroke of fulltime as Tawanda Mupasiri hit the crossbar with a header before the rebound hit by Chitiyo was brilliantly saved by Caps goalkeeper Jorum Muchambo.
