A MILTON  Keynes resident is following his dream of becoming an environmental consultant thanks to a grant from his social landlord, The Guinness Partnership.

Arnold Zimuto applied for one of Guinness’ annual Aspire Awards earlier this year. The scheme is designed to help its customers get back in to work or further up the career ladder by gaining new qualifications and skills.

He is one of more than 100 Aspire winners and is using his award to complete a Lead Environmental Auditor Course run by The British Standards Institution which he hopes will help him secure a job in the field. Since travelling back to the UK from Zimbabwe in 2014 where he was looking after his sick father, Arnold has been unable to find work.

Arnold said: “I have been trying to get a job since I came back but without experience and professional training it has been difficult. The course will enable me to practise as an environmental auditor and will give me a chance to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming an environmental consultant.

“The moment I realised I had received an award, at first it was a shock and then unbound happiness. We actually had a celebration at our house. My children, my wife and I had a little party of our own.”

Guinness, which manages nearly 60,000 homes across England, celebrated its
125th anniversary this year and marked the milestone by handing out a record number of awards to its customers.
